Tower Shukokai has been in Darwen since 1987. Run by Andy Allwood, 5th Dan, we spend loads of time on kata, plausible realistic bunkai, kumite and randori in all forms, and good, solid karate for all ages and abilities. Come and have a sweat with us.
This is a very nice web site. Kano JuiJitsu, Leicester is run by a great old mate, Simon Ford-Powell 5th Dan. He has a great attitude to martial arts, a great club, and is always good for a beer
Chosho Academy
Steve Merrett (nice pun this-Chosho can be translated as "Merit") is another old IBF pal. Steve, a karate 6th Dan is amongst the most rounded martial artists you could ever hope to meet. A genuine polymath, eager to learn, and, apparently always testing himself.
I might just try out his fight night if I am down Essex way. Another beautifully presented web site too. Well done Steve.
Patrick McCarthy
McCarthy Sensei is a karateka and historian with an impressive reputation. Read about him and his organisation, koryu-uchinadi
The Sandokai site is very good. They teach an eclectic traditional Japanese-based system, but a lot of thought has gone into the syllabus, and to the construction of the site. Have a look.
The new English Karate Federation is one so-called National Governing Body but crucially it is the one with provisional membership of the WKF. I am proud to have been active in its inauguaration processes. For alternative points of view, see also www.karateengland.org.uk and www.e-k-a.org.uk and www.karatesportengland.co.uk
The AMA is the largest Multistyle Martial Arts association in Great Britain, and the Karate section, the AKA, is one of the founders of the EKF. Click left tpo check out their new website
Although I do not necessarily agree with the notion of pushing party politics via a Martial Art website (as IBF GB President Martin Clarke does) and I don't always endorse his politics, he is one of the "old school"- a superlative martial artist (former world champion and Olympian), and a true 8th Dan in a world where it seems relatively easy to acquire the "rank". The IBF under him has been innovative in sport and Budo. Martin is a longstanding and loyal mate. Have a look and form your own opinions.
Website of my old mate from the IBF days, Paul Sargeant, 3rd Dan Shotokan
Traditional Karate Great Britain was formed after the breakdown of Karate England by a group of committed traditionalists, including Harry Cook and Trev Seddon
This site gives a thorough, unbiased view of karate, both politically and technically. The database of key people and organisations is growing, and could become a core reference resource.
A new site with some interesting links. Toni Todorov is the photographer at many karate events
"Karate and Martial Arts With Weapons"
An excellent, informative site covering Okinawan karate, with lots of historical stuff and some great videos
Have a look at this. This is what a karate club website should aspire to. I don't know Paul, although I feel I should. I certainly would want to train with him on the strength of this.
Trev Seddon, 4th Dan Wado Ryu is a founding officer of TKGB.
Derby Karate Club is his club
The WKF. One World Governing body. The one with IOC recognition.
Dog Judo. Possibly the funniest web site ever?
Excellent!!!
The ever-splendid MAI magazine, edited by the energetic, effervescent Bob Sykes. Bob has been a supporter of my work, and as well as a journalist he is a martial artist of passion and enthusiasm, and trains with all the greats.
The excellent, award winning Karate-Kid on-line shop and martial arts resource. Staffed by friendly, helpful people. Nice to do business with.
Tony Gray, 4th Dan, is a former Great Britain and England International. He is also the man who introduced me to Terry Wingrove, one of the pioneers of European Karate. Tony is a fine chap, although he is becoming a pain in the a**e, having now beaten me twice in the English Championships!
Chris Thompson's organization, BTKA. Well put-together site managed by Paul Hacker. Chris is an 8th dan, and one of the longest serving, most respected karateka in Britain
The Shotokan Way.
New and evolving resource dedicated to Shotokan. Technical, news, chatroom etc. Looks interesting
Paul Coleman (6th Dan)'s Oxford Karate Academy. (JKF GojuKai), under Leo Lipinski. Paul is a former World Iri Kumi champion and renowned for his athletic, agile karate.
WEB FORUMS
There are lots of these discussion forums around. They are a useful way of keeping up with what's going on. Here are some I can recommend:
Steve Rowe's organisation: Karate, Kung Fu and other martial arts. Steve has also founded MASA www.martialartstandards.org
It's great to see Rob Redmond back on line. "Chickens" is always worth a look for a no-nonsense insight into burning issues exercising the thinking karateka.
Mark Raistrick's Teesside Academy/ Taisho-Do

Terry Wingrove's CyberBudo

I met Martin Watts at the 50th Anniversary Budosai Bash. He's urbane, witty and laid back, and a solid WuShu player. Have a look at his site. I like his style. I hope to see more of him as I work out the White Crane SanJian
Alan Platt's Ju-Go-Te Jutsu
Terry Pottage's Kenyukai site
